Welcome to July SPP News.
Â
As Steve Hitchiner, our new President, settles into the role, a key priority of his that
aligns strongly with the feedback we have had from our membership is DC Retirement
   Outcomes.
You will see a range of SPP activity in the area over the coming months. Our session at
Conference is set to explore transformation and innovation in DC outcomes from
multiple perspectives. Our recent CDC event is well worth watching if you missed it
live. In addition, we are now shaping roundtable discussions to explore key components
of better outcomes for DC members in retirement. These discussions will include
establishing needs in retirement, improved strategies and potential new product
   designs.
We will share what comes from these discussions with you and as ever, please do let us
know if you are keen to get involved.
Wishing you all a pleasant summer, we will be back with a newsletter in late September.

Deborah Wilson - Member of Administration Committee
Deborah has had a long career in pensions, starting in the mid 1980s as a pension administrator for an insurance company. She didn't intend to stay - it was a stop gap year of working while taking piano exams needed to go to music college - she stayed for 14 years, and has remained in pensions ever since! While there, she was appointed MNT to the staff scheme and was both the first female, and youngest trustee. She now specialises in pensions governance and operational effectiveness, working with both trustees and corporates to deliver practical and effective solutions. She speaks all pensions languages - DB, DC, actuarial, legal, unapproved and international and many more. She has been involved with the SPP since 2001 when she joined the Administration Committee, and has been on the Council since 2003. In that time she has also chaired the Administration Committee and sat on several of the other technical committees. Â
Â
Outside of work Debs has three rescued dogs, loves walking and being at the coast, socialising and when she has time, singing, dancing and performing. Â
Stuart Reid - Chair of Administration CommitteeÂ
Â
Stuart has been a member of the Administration Committee since 2014 and began his 2 year term as Committee Chair at the start of 2021.
Â
Stuart has over 30 years’ experience in a variety of pension administration roles, starting out with an insurer and then moving to spend the last 27 years at Hymans Robertson. His current role involves providing in house technical support to the Administration business unit there. This involves dealing with preparing and delivering training and the drafting and review of member communications as well as dealing with queries raised by administration teams.
Â
Outside of work Stuart has been involved in the Boys’ Brigade for many years and is currently the Secretary of the Motherwell, Bellshill and District Battalion. He is a keen supporter of Motherwell Football Club following them across Scotland and, very occasionally, across Europe.
